Which stadium will venue Copa Del Rey final? This question circles around Spanish football media these days. Barcelona and Athletic are hoping to play their final at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium, but everyone who has Real Madrid in heart hate the idea of watching Catalans or Basques celebrate the title inside their home. Catastrophe would of course be even greater if Barcelona lifts the trophy, and they are the favorites!

Barcelona insists on Bernabeu

The finalists would like Santiago Bernabeu for simple reason – it can host the largest number of spectators. However, the decision will be made by Spanish Football Association next week and they will choose between these stadiums: Camp Nou, Mestalla, Santiago Bernabeu, San Mames and La Cartuja.

This is what Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu had to say, clearly pointing to the capital city stadium:

I'd like a stadium that can cater for lots of fans for the final, but not ours. We would like to play at a big stadium so the maximum possible number of supporters can come. For superstitious reasons, we don't want it to be our stadium, but we want a big one. Barça fans like to travel for the final day so they can party.

Bilbao coach Ernesto Valverde agreed adding that Mestalla does not have the capacity to host all the fans.

Of course, Real Madrid and Florentino Perez have something to say themselves, and they most certainly do not want to witness the scenes from 1997 when the whole Bernabeu had to listen Barcelona anthem.

Real Madrid fans started a petition on social network - #NoAlBernabéu

People from Real administration are trying to find excuses to avoid the organization of the final, and they came to the next two options. The first one makes Bernabeu unavailable because of the renovation work at the stadium, while for the second one they will need a little help from their B team. Real Madrid Castilla will most likely find their spot in the playoff for the Segunda Division, and in that case they would play their deciding match at the Bernabeu, while Mestalla would most likely venue Copa del Rey final.

Real has not came with the official announcement on this theme yet, but the Blancos fans are pretty clear as Facebook and Twitter are full of #NoAlBernabéu hashtags. They do not want to watch Catalans and Basques on Saturday May 30 in Spain’s end-of-season showpiece occasion!
