Rodgers was caught travelling across Europe to Italy, where reports emerged on Liverpool manager trying to establish a background for sealing a deal with AS Roma on their star midfielder Miralem Pjanic.

The visit pretty much explains Colin Pascoe’s yesterday’s statement that Rodgers had to ‘shoot off after the game sharpish as he had a meeting in Europe’. After Rodgers paid the visit to Rome many tried working into his intentions of signing either Pjanic or Strootman.

It is far more probable that the man approached will be Pjanic, as Liverpool FC have been connected to the Bosnian talent before, with rumours rising but Roma president James Pallota stating :

The Liverpool thing with Pjanic is the same. We have another four years with him, and we love him. [...] If someone offers a huge amount, you at least have to listen to them. You’re running a team, so you have to look at what’s best for everyone, not just one individual. That’s the way the world works.

Pjanic, often described as an ‘old-fashioned playmaker’, is well-known for his free-kick abilities, technical qualities, passing, and vision. Pjanic started his career in French side Metz, moving to Olympique Lyonnaise in 2008 where he was considered the replacement for Juninho. Helping the club reach the Champions League semi-finals, he made some blistering appearances in the next three years, noted by many European big clubs. He moved to Roma in 2011 for €11 million, making more than 100 appearances and scoring 15 goals since.

Since Liverpool FC legend Steven Gerrard announced moving away to MLS, the club have been struggling to find a decent replacement for him, and Pjanic seems to be the deal. The Reds boss travelling to Rome will certainly want to tie-up the loose ends and guarantee the deal is done in the summer.
