Sampdoria were hammered hard by Torino on Sunday, losing 5-1, and Serbian manager Sinisa Mihajlovic is reported to have ordered double training session regime for the players this week. Mihajlovic was furious and disheartened, stating :
““I was ashamed of this performance. I look back to the words of Boskov, who said it’s better to lose one game 5-1 than five games 1-0. I compliment Ventura and his squad, as they absolutely flattened us. If I have to start discussing what my team did wrong, we’d still be here tomorrow...”
However, rumours in Italy say that Cameroon striking star Samuel Eto'o refused to take part in the double session, leaving the training ground early. Eto'o does not seem to have cared for the orders as reporters saw him leaving without even speaking to Mihajlovic.
Tancredi Palmeri, a CNN and Gazzetta Dello Sport contributor, tweeted today :
“Eto’o refused to do double training today with Sampdoria and left the training camp. This is going down well.”
Obviously, there are even reports that the striker could as well quit his contract at Sampdoria, although it would mean he couldn’t play for anyone else until the summer, as he already played for Everton and made a debut for Sampdoria yesterday.
Eto’o joined Sampdoria last week, returning to Italy after having spent only four months at Everton. Although Everton manager praises Eto’o’s influence on young players there, the rumours are that he was becoming a disruptive influence in the dressing room.
The Blucerchiati are desperately looking to patch things up before they have gone too far, if they have not already, as if it bursts between Mihajlovic and Eto’o the contract could as well be terminated for the Cameroon legend.
